Suppliers were demanding payment. He sat on the park bench, head in hands, wondering if anything could save his company from bankruptcy.
Suddenly an old man appeared before him.
"I can see that something is troubling you," he said.
After listening to the executive's woes, the old man
said, "I believe I can help you."
He asked the man his name, wrote out a check, and pushed it into his
hand saying, "Take this money. Meet me here exactly one year from today, and you can pay me back at that time."
Then he turned and disappeared as quickly as he had come.
The business executive saw in his hand a check for $500,000, signed by John D. Rockefeller, then one of the richest men in the world!
"I can erase my money worries in an instant!" he realized. But instead, the executive decided to put the uncashed check in his safe. Just knowing it was there might give him the strength to work out a way to save his business, he thought.
With renewed optimism, he negotiated better deals and extended terms of payment. He closed several big sales. Within a few months, he was out of debt and making money once again.
Exactly one year later, he returned to the park with the uncashed check. At the agreed-upon time, the old man appeared. But just as the executive was about to hand back the check and share his success story, a nurse came running up and grabbed the old man.
"I'm so glad I caught him!" she cried. "I hope he hasn't been bothering you. He's always escaping from the rest home and telling people he's John D. Rockefeller. "
And she led the old man away by the arm.
The astonished executive just stood there, stunned.
All year long he'd been wheeling and dealing, buying and selling, convinced he had half a million dollars behind him.
Suddenly, he realized that it wasn't the money, real or imagined, that had turned his life around. It was his newfound self-confidence that gavehim the power to achieve anything he went after.
"I've never been poor, only broke. A person can be addicted to alcohol, prescription drugs, inhalants, or other street drugs (cocaine, heroin, methamphetamines, etc.). Understanding the reasons people are initially attracted to drug use can help stop future users from becoming addicts. Experimentation and curiosity are the first factors that draw many to even try drugs. They want to feel that “high,” the sense of euphoria that comes with drug use. While this may lead to recreational use of drugs (using only in certain situations), it rarely leads to actual addiction unless other factors are present. However, some drugs (like heroin) have are more likely to cause addiction than others, resulting in an addiction from simple experimentation alone.
Prescription drugs can turn people into addicts because they have conditions in which they need to take drugs in order to get relief. A person becomes hooked on prescription drugs when they take more than the recommended dosage, take it more frequently than recommended, and continue using the drug after their initial medical condition clears up. Elite athletes are susceptible to using drugs. They use them for performance enhancing abilities. Steroids can make muscles bigger, while amphetamines help reduce or numb pain, allowing persons to play injured. Recently, major league baseball has come under fire for drug abuse. Though not as prominent, high school and college athletes have also been known to use drugs to enhance their performance.
Others turn to drug use to cope with problems in their real lives. Whether it is past abuse (physical or sexual), school problems, work problems, or relationship issues, drug use can help a person temporarily escape the realities of his/her life. Being around drugs and being exposed to addicts can also lead to drug addiction. If a family member or close friend uses or is addicted to drugs, it becomes acceptable for other members to engage in similar behaviour. It becomes a tolerated activity. Peer pressure is also a factor in turning people into drug addicts. Contrary to popular belief, peer pressure can happen at any age. Adults fall prey to peer pressure to fit into new social classes, new workplaces, and new neighbourhoods. Teenagers fight peer pressure on everything from looks to alcohol to sex to drugs. In fact, crystal meth is becoming a way for many teenage girls to fight the pressure that comes with needing to be thin and attractive. Teenagers can also fall prey to the rebellious attitude that they need to do anything their parents or those in authority say is bad. Easy accessibility to drugs and new, lower prices are other causes of drug addiction. Drugs can be found anywhere if a person simply asks. Street corners and alleyways are no longer the only place to find drugs. Schools, workplaces, and even the family next door might be new places to find drugs. With more drugs being produced, the price has also been driven down. Another one of the causes of drug addiction is using drugs to mask other mental problems. For example, depressed people frequently use drugs to escape their sad feelings.
No single factor can predict whether or not a person will become addicted to drugs. Risk for addiction is influenced by a person's biology, social environment, and age or stage of development. The more risk factors an individual has, the greater the chance that taking drugs can lead to addiction. For example, the genes that people are born with—in combination with environmental influences—account for about half of their addiction vulnerability. Additionally, gender, ethnicity, and the presence of other mental disorders may influence risk for drug abuse and addiction. A person's environment includes many different influences—from family and friends to socioeconomic status and quality of life in general. Factors such as peer pressure, physical and sexual abuse, stress, and parental involvement can greatly influence the course of drug abuse and addiction in a person's life. Genetic and environmental factors interact with critical developmental stages in a person's life to affect addiction vulnerability, and adolescents experience a double challenge. Although taking drugs at any age can lead to addiction, the earlier that drug use begins, the more likely it is to progress to more serious abuse. And because adolescents' brains are still developing in the areas that govern decision making, judgment, and self-control, they are especially prone to risk-taking behaviours, including trying drugs of abuse.
In the end, drug addiction is a preventable disease. Results from researches have shown that prevention programs that involve the family, schools, communities, and the media are effective in reducing drug abuse. Although many events and cultural factors affect drug abuse trends, when youths perceive drug abuse as harmful, they reduce their drug taking. It is necessary, therefore, to help youth and the general public to understand the risks of drug abuse and for teachers, parents, and healthcare professionals to keep sending the message that drug addiction can be prevented if a person never abuses drugs.

Malaysian rapper in magnum-opus Endhiran..

Just when I was wondering on what happened to Yogi-B who created waves with his songs and albums, I stumbled upon this. He is singing for a song in Endhiran under the musical composition of the one and only AR Rahman.

"Singer Yogi B who has made his presence felt in the Tamil film industry with some spectacular songs, has been roped in to sing a song for the mammoth production 'Endhiran' that stars superstar Rajinikanth and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan.

A. R. Rahman who is the music director of the film has confirmed to Indiaglitz that Yogi B has indeed sung a song for the film. Moreover, he added that the Malaysian singer was in his studio a while back with regards to Endhiran. A. R. Rahman was working for the Aamir Khan starrer 'Ghajini' at that time. Though Yogi B was there was Endhiran, his services were used for a background score 'Run' that features in 'Ghajini'.

Everything about 'Endhiran' is shrouded with complete secrecy as is the case with every Shankar film. 'Endhiran' produced by Sun Pictures will be ready for release in 2010."

It is indeed a dream of every singer and musician out there to be a part of AR Rahman's songs. To see a Malaysian born Indian to be a part of such a grand movie is indeed something for us to be proud of. '

Never underestimate Malaysian artists. A good proof of this is our Yogi-B. I want to extend my New Year greetings to all of you and pray for your prosperity. However, like most people I have been talking to, I too am looking at a challenging year ahead.

Challenges in life though are not aimless. Certainly God doesn't put us through the mill without a purpose. it is time to look beyond the surface of the obvious in life, to peer deeper and to be open to God's wisdom. It is time to meditate for direction.

I will post my discoveries on the year ahead in my website. Until then, despite the seeming odds let us all pray for an enriching New Year.

God Bless

Aum Shanti,
MyHinduPage.org

Seoson's greetings..!

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. Just browse through 'Friendster' bulletins.

Taking a cue from my brothers Makkez and Durai, here I am to discuss about something which I find as irritating and at the same time, most amusing stuff in Friendster.

Before proceeding, let me ask a question here. What is the reason behind the existence of the 'Bulletin Board' in Friendster? It is clearly stated that the purpose of the "Bulletin Board' is, 'Use the Bulletin Board to post messages (such as questions, party invites, event information, romance issues, etc.) to all of your friends'. The funny thing is that after seeing the word 'etc', our people have started posting downright stupid bulletins which is so dumb, a 6 year old will laugh at it.

Look at a few examples below:

'You shouldnt have opened this (SORRY)
Now
your mom will die
in
4 hours
unless ...
You repost it with any of these titles:'

're-post this titled "if you
miss someone, read this", within one
minute, and whoever you are missing,
will surprise you tomorrow.
BREAK THIS, AND YOU WILL HAVE THE WORST
LIFE STARTING IN 2 HOURS...'

AND THE BEST ONE..!!
Tada..!

'BREAK THIS, AND YOU WILL HAVE THE WORST
LIFE STARTING IN 2 HOURS...'

I've been practically cracking my head thinking about this, why some people are so dumb and naive enough to actually re-post all these bulletins!?? Do you seriously believe that if it's stated that, 'if you don't re-post this, your dog will get raped by your neighbor tonight.’ it would actually happen?!

What I am trying to say here is that, the bulletin board is there for a purpose. Posting all these out-of-the drainage stuffs would only make people who are posting something important get in trouble. You see, obviously people will get fed up of reading the same old pure stupid s*it stuffs and end up not showing any interest in reading bulletins including those important ones. This definitely trouble people who want to inform something important and such.

Not only that, at least try to realize that phrases like ‘Ur mum will die’ and so on disturbs people deep-down! If you wanna go ahead and crap, do so among your stupid friends. Please don’t waste our time especially with those interesting titles which ends up to a stupid post. It’s not only irritating, it’s…..haizzz… Never mind, I don’t wanna complete that sentence..

So ‘kids’ grow up. Hope you know who I mean by ‘kids’. Truth is, most of those bulletins are re-posted by Indians. Seriously, you’re only giving wrong impressions of us to others. As a typical Indian youth, I've been finding a place to voice my feelings without anyone influencing me. Thanks to my fellow blogging friends, I guess I've found a place here in the blogosphere.

Now, back to the post.
Well, as we can see right now, the number of Indian students in Tamil schools achieving straight A's in UPSR has been increasing from year to year(Note that I mentioned 'INDIAN" students and not Tamil, Telegu, or Malayalee students). It's a good sign of improvement in our society. But than, is this it? Is academic excellency in the first public examination would be the pinnacle of success for our Tamil schools? Why are we not going further than that? What I am trying to emphasize here is that, what's the point if our young kids are getting straight A's in UPSR but the physical condition of our Tamil schools are deteriorating from time to time? Ask yourself, when was the the last time you did something to improve the conditions of our Tamil schools? Well i doubt whether some of you had ever visited a Tamil school what more caring to improve the conditions of it? This is a bitter fact that most of us choose to ignore.

Just look at the Chinese schools which are mushrooming around us. Such vernacular schools are at the same age as our Tamil schools. But compare their conditions with ours. Aren't we in a pitiful state? You may ask on how did this condition occur. Simple, when you find some free time, just drop by a Tamil school at 6.00pm during school days and compare the situation with any Chinese school. At Chinese schools, you may see parents in a showcase of luxurious cars waiting to pick their children back home which is in contrast with Tamil schools where parents would be waiting in motorbikes and most to most, school vans to pick children back home. I'm sorry if this is a slap on the face for poor Indians but it's really a fact.

What happened to all the rich Indians? Well, read on.
The rich Indians in the other hand would prefer to send their children to private schools and convents. For them, sending their kids to Tamil schools pulls down their dignity. They would happily spend thousands and thousands of dollars in going on tours around the world. But when it comes down to helping the Tamil schools, "Ekonomi tight la brother". Just have a look at the common sight in the temple. After every pooja, Indians would gracefully take out some 'red' notes to be given to the iyers. I just have a question you, don't the iyers have a fixed salary to perform their duty? Then why do you have to 'donate' to them? Show off eh?
Imagine if every Indian stops 'donating' to these iyers but in turn give the money to the Tamil schools, then I don't think the little kids of Tamil schools would ever have to go around asking for donations for their schools.

Ponder on this,
We are the proud owners of the tallest Murugan statue in the world, but we don't even have a single Tamil HIGH School? Why go until high school? Just look at the current condition of a Tamil primary school below.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 300px; height: 225px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_GoiM1LkID7A/STgRJ4YEk4I/AAAAAAAAAMU/42NJN53FnMA/s400/ne_06.1.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5275985824914379650" />
TEPI SUNGAI TAMIL SCHOOL KLANG.

How pitiful it is eh?

Now I'll just leave it to you to decide on what YOU are willing to do for our Tamil schools. We've done it academic wise, now lets go on further!

P/s,
Since this is my first post, I apologize if there are any mistakes in what and how I wrote. Sincerely I would be happy if out of everyone who read my articles, at least one person would be ready to be the change and help to improve our society.
THANK YOU.
